Wendy Williams wears a lot of hats in her career. She has been a successful talk-show host, businesswoman and author, but now she wants to tackle a new challenge – Broadway.
The 48-year-old Williams, who was named as one of the 35 Most Powerful People in Media by The Hollywood Reporter recently, will be joining the cast of Chicago later this summer. The show, which has won Tony Awards, will feature her for seven weeks in the role of Matron “Mama” Morton, the same role that Queen Latifah was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 in the movie based on the play.
Williams teased the announcement last week at the Hollywood Reporter’s Power List party in Manhattan, where she said that she would be doing something ”totally out of my wheelhouse” and “you would not expect me to do it.” I guess this fits that bill, does it not?
Also at the event, Williams decided to endorse the candidacy of Alec Baldwin for late-night talk show host at NBC. I am not certain why her opinion about that matters, but I guess it does. Williams added that she enjoyed her daytime talk show way too much to even consider making such a move herself.
